Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Dee’s Agora knows about you, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the website and the debate sessions we run.

The short version: we collect what is needed to run fair votes and organise debates, we do not sell anything to advertisers, and the part of your activity that becomes public is the part that belongs to the public record of a debate.

From Google, when you sign in. Your name, email address, and profile picture, plus the identifiers and tokens Google issues so we can keep you signed in. Google is the only sign-in method we offer, and we never see your Google password.

From you, on your profile. A username, avatar, age, location, bio, links to your social accounts, and a personal website. All of these are optional beyond the username, and you can change or clear them whenever you like.

From taking part. The topics you upvote, the option you choose in a voting round, whether you asked to speak and which side you preferred, applications to debate (including the stance and any audio you submit), your participation and attendance in sessions, and your post-debate vote along with the reason you gave for it.

A phone number, only if you offer one. A voting round can ask for a WhatsApp number so stewards can reach you about a speaking slot. It is optional, it is not shown to other members, and it is used for coordinating debates.

Technical basics. A sign-in session cookie, and the ordinary server logs our hosting provider keeps. We do not run advertising trackers, analytics pixels, or third-party profiling scripts.

Public, to anyone on the internet:

• Your speaker profile — username, avatar, bio, location if you added one, and the social links you chose to publish.
• The debates you took part in, the side you argued, and any recognition such as Featured Speaker.
• Aggregate results: how many votes a motion or speaker received, vote shares, and the distribution of reasons people gave.
• Recordings, highlights, and clips of sessions you spoke in — see section 05.

Not public:

• Your email address.
• Any phone number you gave for scheduling.
• Your individual votes, and the content of your debate application.
• Your age, unless you also put it in your bio.

This one is worth stating plainly. Every vote you cast is stored against your account. That is how we enforce one vote per person per topic and per debate, and how we void votes when a result has been manipulated.

Other members never see how you voted — results are only ever displayed in aggregate. But administrators and stewards can see the underlying records, so treat a vote as private from the room rather than as secret from us. If you would not want a steward to see it, do not cast it.

Debates run on external meeting platforms such as Google Meet or Zoom, and are recorded. Edited sessions, highlights, and short clips are published to public channels including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook.

That means your image, voice, and arguments leave our systems and enter platforms with their own privacy policies, their own recommendation systems, and their own retention rules. Once a clip is public, other people can download and repost it, and we cannot recall those copies.

Speaking is always a choice. You can read, vote, and hold a profile without ever appearing in a recording.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. We rely on a small set of providers to run the platform:

• Google — sign-in, and the meeting platform for many sessions.
• Our hosting and database providers — the site runs on Vercel and stores data in a managed PostgreSQL database hosted in the EU.
• Meeting and social platforms — Zoom, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook, for running and publishing debates.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is genuinely necessary to protect someone’s safety.

• To give you an account and keep you signed in across visits.
• To run votes fairly, which requires knowing that one person voted once.
• To select speakers, schedule sessions, and contact the people involved.
• To publish debates and maintain the public record and speaker profiles that record produces.
• To moderate the community, investigate manipulation, and enforce the Terms of Service.

Account and profile data is kept while your account is open. Sign-in sessions expire on their own and are cleared automatically.

Debate records — which sessions ran, who argued which side, and the aggregate results — are kept indefinitely, because they are the archive the platform exists to build. Administrative audit logs are kept so that changes to who holds admin access remain accountable.

You can edit or clear your profile fields, remove your social links, and stop taking part at any time from your profile page.

You can also ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Write to hello@deesagora.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Two honest limits on deletion. Published recordings on third-party platforms may survive, and the historical record of a debate — that it happened, and who argued which side — stays in the archive so the result remains intelligible. We will detach that record from your profile and personal details.

Dee’s Agora is not intended for children. You must be at least 16 to hold an account. If you believe someone under that age has an account, tell us at hello@deesagora.com and we will remove it.

When this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page, and we will flag anything material on the site rather than quietly editing it.
